While many roles at Coinbase are remote‑first, in‑person participation is required throughout the year. Team and company‑wide off‑sites are held multiple times annually with full support and attendance expected.

Key Responsibilities

• Drive FinOps culture by embedding cost‑awareness into engineering and product decisions, collaborating across finance, engineering, and product, and providing real‑time visibility into cloud spend with automated tagging and chargeback/showback.
• Manage cost allocation and unit economics for all Coinbase projects, ensuring each team maintains a crystal‑clear view of all‑in costs, including shared and partner services.
• Build and maintain the FinOps Hub, a centralized platform that delivers real‑time optimization and cost data for partner teams.
• Provide strategic visibility and accountability to leadership, helping teams balance shipping new features with infrastructure efficiency.
• Collaborate with vendors to optimize contracts and provide engineering teams with right‑size resource insights.

Job Duties

• Partner across engineering and finance to build tooling that reveals the financial impact of architectural decisions, enabling teams to balance feature shipping with infrastructure efficiency.
• Build and maintain core features of the FinOps Hub, converting raw cloud and vendor data into actionable insights.
• Oversee vendor billing API integration, ensuring accurate data flows into allocation models.

Requirements

• Deep, hands‑on understanding of cloud infrastructure (AWS or GCP), and how different cloud primitives are provisioned, metered, and billed.
• Strong proficiency in backend software engineering (Go, Python, or Ruby) and a history of delivering high‑quality, production‑ready code.
• Analytical and debugging skills to trace cost anomalies back to specific infrastructure changes, plus excellent cross‑functional communication to explain technical drivers to peers and product managers.

Nice to Haves

• Prior experience in FinOps, cloud economics, or building infrastructure‑optimization tools.
• Experience building internal developer tools, dashboards, or portals that influence engineering behavior.
• Professional certifications such as FinOps Certified Practitioner or AWS Certified Solutions Architect.
