Job Summary

The Assistant Football Coach is responsible for developing and leading a successful football program that emphasizes sportsmanship, teamwork, skill development, and academic achievement.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and conduct effective practice sessions focused on fundamental and advanced football skills.
  • Develop game strategies, lineups, and competitive plans that reflect strong knowledge of the sport.
  • Supervise all athletes during practices, games, team events, and travel.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive team culture focused on sportsmanship, discipline, and personal growth.
  • Monitor academic performance, attendance, and eligibility of all student-athletes.
  • Maintain and inventory equipment, uniforms, and supplies; request replacements as needed.
  • Ensure proper care and safe use of fields, facilities, and equipment.
  • Communicate regularly with players, families, administration, and staff.
  • Coordinate team travel, schedules, and game-day logistics.
  • Uphold and enforce all WVSSAC rules, board of education policies, and athletic department procedures.
  • Serve as a professional role model for students and represent the school with integrity.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or Athletic Director.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred.
  • Prior football coaching or playing experience strongly preferred.
  • Must meet all WVSSAC and county requirements: background checks, coaching certification, CPR/First Aid, and mandatory trainings.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to motivate student-athletes and build a strong program culture.
Work Environment
  • Practices, games, and travel may occur outside regular school hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Position requires physical activity and the ability to demonstrate football skills.
