Position Overview

In the role of Animal Care Operations Specialist, you will be responsible for ensuring that all companion animals and aquatic life receive top-notch care and care management at our Pet Care Center (PCC). You will become the go-to resource for animal care and husbandry. Your efforts will contribute to achieving our budgeted sales and minimizing losses, with a strong focus on merchandising and inventory management.

Through collaboration with the sales team, you'll ensure that our operations run smoothly and efficiently, meeting the diverse needs of guests and their pets. Success in this role requires a genuine passion for animal welfare and a collaborative spirit within the Pet Care Center.

Key Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate a deep interest in animal welfare, showcasing extensive knowledge of companion animals and aquatic species.
  • Ensure proper care for all animals and aquatic life within the PCC, including regular health checks and incident reports.
  • Provide exceptional guest service during register transactions, contributing to a memorable shopping experience.
  • Utilize effective selling techniques to support guest needs and inquiries.
  • Create an appealing merchandise display by ensuring all products are stocked, priced, and organized effectively.
  • Maintain a high level of expertise through ongoing training, while also educating colleagues about animal care.
  • Foster a positive team environment that emphasizes collaboration and inclusion.
  • Adhere to operational guidelines, policies, and procedures diligently.
  • Act as a primary resource for guests regarding animal education and care.
  • Work closely with the sales team to order companions, aquatic life, and supplies to maximize sales and manage inventory efficiently.
  • Analyze inventory data to recommend areas for improvement.
  • Perform regular housekeeping tasks to maintain the cleanliness and professionalism of animal habitats and aquatic areas.
  • Manage proper documentation for relinquished and adoption animals.
  • Participate in physical inventory counts for animal and aquatic life.
  • Commit to safety and loss prevention practices to ensure a safe environment for all.
  • Complete additional tasks and projects as assigned, working independently or collaboratively.
Other Essential Duties
  • Utilize Selling Behaviors: Your role is crucial in delivering an extraordinary guest experience. Implementing the Sales Model will help to identify and address the needs of guests effectively.

Basic Qualifications

A minimum of one year of experience in caring for companion animals and aquatic life is essential. Candidates should have an extensive understanding of these animals and sales techniques. Professional appearance, strong interpersonal skills, and effective communication abilities are required due to interactions with guests and team members.

Certification

Successful completion and ongoing maintenance of the Petco Animal Care Certification program is required.

Education/Skills

A high school diploma or GED is necessary. Applicants must also demonstrate proficiency in basic mathematics and accounting, alongside excellent communication skills.

Supervisory Responsibility
  • Ensure that the Pet Care Center operates in line with established opening and closing procedures.
  • Promote and adhere to safety protocols to protect partners, guests, and pets.
Work Environment

The majority of tasks will be performed indoors, but occasional guest carryouts and veterinary visits may require brief outdoor activities. The nature of this position involves physical tasks such as bending, kneeling, moving merchandise (up to 50 pounds), and prolonged standing, so adherence to safety procedures is crucial. Flexibility in scheduling, including evenings and weekends, is expected to meet the needs of the PCC.
