As our new Lead Privacy Counsel, you will work at the forefront of exciting and complex legal challenges that arise within fast-growing tech companies. Partnering with global teams, including Data Privacy Operations, Product Counsel, and Security, you will provide essential legal guidance on privacy issues. You will lead the efforts to establish a comprehensive privacy strategy and ensure compliance with global data protection laws while maintaining a strong focus on customer-centric product design.
Your responsibilities will include:
Building, implementing, and expanding Coinbase's privacy program in collaboration with Privacy Operations.
Providing expert privacy legal advice to product teams.
Monitoring global data protection laws and translating them into actionable guidelines for stakeholders.
Participating in cross-functional projects related to data governance and data protection.
Working alongside Security and Risk teams to address privacy incidents and regulatory inquiries.
Overseeing the drafting and updating of privacy-related policies and reports.
Collaborating with Privacy Operations to enhance training and awareness about data privacy across Coinbase.
Teaming up with product developers to create secure, privacy-sensitive customer experiences.
What we are looking for in you:
A minimum of 6 years as a practicing attorney, with at least 4 years focused on privacy, ideally within tech or financial sectors.
Juris Doctor degree or international equivalent, with a preference for a license to practice law in the U.S.
In-depth knowledge of U.S. and international privacy laws, such as CCPA/CPRA, Canada PIPEDA, and Brazil LGPD.
Exceptional project and people management abilities, especially in coordinating large-scale, cross-functional initiatives.
Strong communication skills to convey legal complexities into clear guidance for diverse stakeholders.
Experience engaging with government agencies and regulators on sensitive issues.
A genuine passion for data protection law and advocating for technology policy.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in the cryptocurrency, fintech, or software technology industries.
Familiarity with privacy regulations specific to financial institutions and international compliance frameworks.
Certification such as CIPP, or similar qualifications will be a plus.
