Description:

Purpose:

We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Structural Engineer to lead the analysis and design of structures and foundations for our chemical and power subsector projects. This role combines technical expertise with leadership responsibilities, ensuring compliance with ASCE, AISC, IBC, and ACI standards while guiding project teams from concept through execution.

This position will sit onsite at our Charleston, WV office and works Monday-Thursday 9 hours per day and 4 hours on Friday.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the structural design of steel structures, pipe racks, equipment supports, and tall framed structures.
  • Develop and review detailed structural designs in compliance with AISC, ASTM, and industry standards.
  • Act as the lead structural engineer on assigned projects, setting design requirements and providing direction.
  • Review, check, and approve design deliverables while ensuring accuracy, quality, and code compliance.
  • Mentor and guide engineers and designers, fostering collaboration and professional growth.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines, project teams across offices, and clients to ensure seamless project delivery.
  • Provide technical support during construction, installation, and project execution.
  • Report functionally to the Project Engineer/Manager and administratively to the Civil/Structural Engineering Design Manager.
Technical Expertis
  • Advanced knowledge of structural codes and standards including IBC, ASCE 7, ACI, AISC, and PIP.
  • Proficiency in structural analysis/design software (STAAD Pro, RISA 3D).
  • Familiarity with Tekla, Navisworks, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office tools.
  • Strong ability to interpret and develop civil/structural drawings and specifications.
Leadership & Collaboration
  • Proven ability to lead mid-size projects and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with clients, stakeholders, and colleagues.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and direct designers and engineers.
  • Creative problem-solving skills with sound engineering judgment.
  • Commitment to quality, safety, and representing Worley with professionalism and integrity.
Education - Qualifications, Accreditation, Training:

Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • 15+ years of progressive civil/structural engineering experience.
Preferred:
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of West Virginia, or the ability to obtain one.
