Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) is building one of the world's largest and most resilient cloud networks. The Internet Capacity Scaling team within OCI's Global Network Engineering organization ensures OCI's Internet front door can scale rapidly to meet growing global demand. The team is responsible for scaling Internet service through software, automation, and data-driven engineering.

We are seeking a Network Development Engineer who will design, automate, and deliver Internet connectivity at scale. This role blends software development, network design, and capacity engineering to enable OCI's Internet edge to grow efficiently, securely, and autonomously.

Responsibilities

Roles & Responsibilities

IP Connectivity & Network Design

Develop Transit & Peering connectivity solutions and Internet edge network designs in close collaboration with partner teams.

Design network topologies, evaluate technologies and protocols, and select platforms that align with OCI's product and scaling needs.

Liaise with vendors on feature development and participate in hardware and software qualification efforts.

Platform Evolution

Contribute to the evolution of OCI's Internet edge platform by identifying opportunities for modernization, scalability, and reliability improvements.

Support the introduction of new hardware platforms, routing architectures, and peering models.

Collaborate with architecture and operations teams to define long-term design standards and platform roadmaps for the Internet edge.

Hands-On Engineering & Innovation

Champion innovation by bringing new network products to life, from initial concept to lab validation and full-scale deployment.

Take designs from concept through feasibility testing, performance qualification, and operational readiness in OCI's qualification labs

Software-Driven Automation

Build and maintain automation frameworks and tools that streamline provisioning, configuration, and validation of Internet capacity.

Use software to accelerate network turn-ups, reduce manual work, and improve visibility through telemetry and analytics.

Protocol & System Expertise

Apply understanding of BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, and other routing protocols to automate configuration and monitoring of Internet-facing systems.

Assist in troubleshooting and optimizing large-scale routing environments in collaboration with operations teams.

Cross-Team Collaboration & Impact

Collaborate with cross-functional teams across software, capacity planning, and network operations to influence the scalability, performance, and reliability of OCI's Internet edge.

Apply data analysis and software engineering principles to improve system efficiency and adapt to evolving cloud demands.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3-7 years of experience in network engineering, software development, or network automation roles.

  • BS/MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

  • Extensive networking knowledge, including routing protocols (BGP, IS-IS, OSPF, MPLS, EVPN) and large-scale Internet architectures.

  • Strong programming proficiency (Python, Go, or similar), essential for automating large-scale systems and driving operational efficiency.

  • Experience with ISP or CSP border networks, peering, and Internet Exchange Points (IXPs).

  • Practical experience working in large-scale, distributed networking environments with automation-first principles.

  • Familiarity with OCI or other major cloud platforms preferred.

  • A problem-solving mindset, adaptability, and passion for learning in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

Range and benefit information provided in this posting are specific to the stated locations only

US: Hiring Range in USD from: $87,000 to $178,100 per annum. May be eligible for bonus and equity.

Oracle maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect Oracle's differing products, industries and lines of business.

Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.

  8. Paid time off: Flexible Vacation is provided to all eligible employees assigned to a salaried (non-overtime eligible) position. For employees working at least 35 hours per week, the vacation accrual rate is 13 days annually for the first three years of employment and 18 days annually for subsequent years of employment. Vacation accrual is prorated for employees working between 20 and 34 hours per week. Employees working fewer than 20 hours per week are not eligible for vacation.
