Were looking for an Environmental Engineer/Geologist/Scientist to continue their career at Jacobs where well empower you to learn and grow in the delivery of environmental site characterization and remediation projects for government and global private-sector clients to make our world better.

Jacobs is currently seeking a full-time Environmental Scientist/Engineer/Geologist to join our team. The successful candidate ideally is located in Washington County, Ohio or Wood County, West Virginia, and will be assigned to project sites in Marietta, Ohio and Charleston, WV.

Your responsibilities will consist of a wide variety of field (primary) and office (secondary) tasks related to the operation of remediation systems and the implementation of environmental investigations and remediation projects. Rresponsibilities may include

  • Oversee or perform field work tasks under minimal to no supervision. Field work such as remediation system maintenance, repairs, subcontractor oversight (i.e., drillers, surveyors, repair technicians, etc.), inspections, groundskeeping, and environmental media sampling with a focus on safety.
  • Inspecting soil and groundwater remediation systems. May include routine set-up, assembly, installation, and/or minor troubleshooting or simple repairs of remediation equipment as directed
  • Complete rigorous and clear field documentation and participate in planning, organizing, and reporting related to field tasks. Recording remediation system data, conducting preliminary analysis, and reporting
  • Troubleshooting equipment failures (pumps, generators, air compressors, water quality meters, photoionization detectors (PIDs), etc.) and/or elevating and communicating repair needs
  • Function as onsite lead in maintaining compliance with permit conditions and leading field teams
  • Building and maintaining relationships with neighboring industrial operators and interacting with our clients
  • Office tasks such as data entry, routine reporting, coordinating field efforts, sample packaging and shipping, health/safety/compliance-oriented tasks, and attending Teams-based meetings, as needed.

Here's what you'll need

  • Bachelors degree in engineering, geology, environmental studies, or other closely related degree
  • At least 5-10 years of professional experience with delivering environmental site characterization and remediation projects, including fieldwork methodology and procedures. Candidates with more experience may also be considered.
  • Experience working on active construction/remediation project sites and overseeing subcontractors.
  • Strong attention to detail when conducting field work.
  • Ability to follow explicit directions as described in multi-step procedures
  • Experience with using Microsoft Office-based software
  • A valid drivers license with no major infractions
  • Initially, the ability to travel up to 25% of the time, as needed, to support projects at other client sites. Ultimately, this role will grow to being full-time onsite at a project site in Marietta, Ohio.
  • Experience leading teams toward a common goal
  • 40-hr HAZWOPER certification or the ability to attain this certification.


The physical and environmental demands required to perform the essential duties of this position include standing, walking, sitting, coordination, balance, and agility demands, which may include the ability to stoop, kneel, squat, grasp, reach, and perform repetitive hand movements. Additional demands may involve a specific level of dexterity, grip strength, climbing, and cardiorespiratory demands. The work areas may be indoors or outdoors and have loud noise, active machinery, high-pressure fluid systems, electrical equipment, heights and depths, fumes, airborne particles, noxious gases, and chemicals. The use of appropriate safety equipment will be mandatory in these areas to prevent hazardous exposures.
