M-F, 1st Shift- 40 hours a week

Contract through 12/31/2024, likely to extend through 2025

Compensation: $25-27/hr

Summary:

We are seeking an Analytical Chemist perform hands-on spectroscopy and surface analysis of polymeric and biocompatible materials with a focus on Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy FTIR and surface analysis by wettability. This role is within the Microscopy and Surface Science R&D group providing analytical services, expertise, and support to internal and external customers. The ideal candidate will have experience in laboratory analytical instrument operation, instrument repair and maintenance, calibration, method development and data interpretation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide routine sample analysis FTIR, wettability for a mix of samples in response to daily changes in priorities.
  • Analysis of materials using techniques to include Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy FTIR, Raman spectroscopy, gravimetric extractables, and contact angle measurements.
  • Analyze data, summarize results, and communicate key findings.
  • Contribute to R&D projects and participate in problem solving throughout product lifecycles development, pilot, and mature manufacturing.
  • Interpretation of complex datasets collected across multiple techniques to provide an understanding of surface properties.

Qualifications

  • Education BS or MS in Chemistry, Plastics, Polymer Science or Materials Engineering/Science with 0-5 years of experience and a focus on spectroscopy and/or surface analysis of materials.
  • Knowledge of vibrational spectroscopy FTIR and Raman including data acquisition techniques and analysis methods.
  • Hands-on chemical lab and analytical chemistry experience including strong record keeping skills hardcopy and electronic filing
  • Experience in performing and interpreting interfacial energy and surface energy measurements wettability, sessile drop, pendant drop, captive bubble, etc.
  • Preferred experience with chemical characterization of surfaces XPS, ToF-SIMS.
  • Creative and effective problem-solving skills to approach varied issues throughout product lifecycles and the ability to apply scientific principles to a broad range of technical assignments.
  • Willingness to support a wide range of customers from R&D to plant-level problem solving.
  • Excellent interpersonal, collaborative, and organizational skills, as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Proficient computer skills, use of MS office software, database management and electronic notebook
