General Description: The purpose of this job within the organization is to manage, oversee and direct the day-to-day operational activities and staff of the Street Department.
This job works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
Duties and Responsibilities: The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
Essential Functions:
Strives to be efficient and effective at balancing and meeting the common needs and reasonable expectations of core constitutes.
Fulfills the department's mission by assisting in developing and implementing strategic goals and objectives that are linked to the City's vision.
Establishes expectations, monitors and evaluates the performance of subordinate employees.
Organizes and assigns work details and tasks; distributes daily assignments, and maintains direct communication with crew leaders for all shifts to ensure efficient and effective tasks of crews are completed.
Performs on-site job visits and inspections.
Assists Deputy Director in developing operational and staffing plans for snow removal, paving, special events, or other activities as needed.
Makes suggestions on hiring, discipline, promotion, and other personnel management functions.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires a High School Diploma or GED and six (6) years of experience in management, leadership, financial/operational analysis, project management, or other closely related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience providing the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the job.
Special Certifications and Licenses:
West Virginia Driver's License

Additional Qualifications:
Must have the ability to provide documentation verifying legal work status.

Ability to understand and comply with City and departmental guidelines, policies, procedures and expectations.
