Job Summary
Evaluate and treat individuals with mental illnesses or substance abuse problems in office and telehealth settings. Services include but not limited to group and individual therapy. Healthcare services are provided in conjunction with state law, professional licensing/certification and/or hospital privileges as required.
Responsibilities
1. Provide psychosocial assessments of patients and families to identify emotional, social, and environmental strengths and problems related to their diagnosis, illness, treatment, and/or life situation.2. Formulate, develop, and implement a comprehensive psychosocial treatment plan utilizing appropriate clinical social work treatments and interventions to monitor patient progress. Interventions may include crisis intervention, brief and long-term individual, marital, family and/or group therapies as well as grief and bereavement work. In the event the patient is seeing multiple providers within behavioral medicine & psychiatry this treatment plan will contribute to the appropriate comprehensive treatment plan for the patient. 3. Screen, identify, diagnosis, treat and manage mental health and/or substance abuse problems in patients and family members. Provide training to other health care professionals in the same manner. May perform these functions independently or as part of a team.4. Assist with screening, identification, diagnosis, management, and treatment of victims of abuse, neglect, domestic violence, rape, etc. Provide training to other health care professionals in the same manner. May participate in on-call or after hour's coverage. Provide consultative services to health care team members within scope of care definitions as needed. Maintain a working knowledge of relevant medical/legal issues that affect patient care, e.g., advance directives, child, and elder abuse.5. Provide education to patients and families around issues related to adaptation to the patient's diagnosis, illness, treatment, and/or life situation.6. Participate in multi-disciplinary health care teams and provide leadership in representing counseling/social work/or psychology perspective/liaison with patient and family. 7. Maintain working knowledge of and liaison with community agencies and resources.8. Knowledge of hospital, medical center and/or health system resources to access and provide for patient care needs.9. Document assessment, plan, interactions, and interventions according to hospital and departmental guidelines and standards.10. Attend and participate in staff, committee, department, and other administrative meetings.11. Keep current with counseling/social work/or psychology and health care developments and seek to increase further enhancement of job-related knowledge.12. As requested, provide teaching and training for students, staff, and faculty and other disciplines. Contribute to the academic mission of the Institute of Academic Medicine and health system by participating in academic activities such as committees, conferences, publications, teaching, and research.

Education
• Master's Degree (Required) Education: Master's degree in counseling or Doctoral Degree in PsychologyComment: Prefer certification as an alcohol and drug counselor; certification as an advanced drug and alcohol counselor; specialty or specific training in treatment for substance use disorders; or under the direct supervision of an advanced alcohol and drug counselor who applies for certification as an alcohol and drug counselor within three years of the date of employment as a counselor
