Job Summary
Under the supervision of a physician, manages the care of patients through the performance of a wide variety of health care services, such as patient care tasks, diagnostic procedures, and therapeutic procedures, to include admissions, inpatient follow-up, and discharges. Oversees daily duties of Hospitalist Advanced Practice Professionals (APP's), assisting with block scheduling as well as coordination of daily assignments. Works with the Hospitalist Medical Director and Corporate Director of Physician Services on a routine basis to optimize Hospital Medicine services to CAMC and patients, to include Evidence-Based Care.
Responsibilities
• The Hospitalist Lead Advanced Practice Professional shall, under appropriate direction and supervision by a Physician, augment the Physician's data gathering abilities in order to assist the supervising Physician in reaching decisions and instituting care plans for the Physician's patients. A Physician Assistant shall have, as a minimum, the knowledge and competency to perform the following functions and may under appropriate supervision perform them; this list is not intended to be specific of all-inclusive: Screen patients to determine need for medical attention. Review patient records to determine health status. Take a patient history. Record pertinent patient data. Make decisions regarding data gathering and appropriate management and treatments of patients being seen for the initial evaluation of a problem or the follow-up evaluation of a previously diagnosed and stabilized condition. Prepare patient summaries. Initiate requests for commonly performed initial laboratory and radiological studies. Identify normal and abnormal findings in history, physical examination, and commonly performed laboratory studies. Initiate appropriate evaluation and emergency management for emergency situations; i.e., cardiac arrest, respiratory distress, neurological conditions. Readily assist and perform assigned tasks in accordance with good medical judgment and departmental procedures. Demonstrate a working knowledge of anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, medical terminology, and abbreviations. Perform work in accordance with all departmental pay practices and scheduling policies, including but not limited to, overtime and various shift work. • Additional Responsibilities of Lead Mid-level Practitioner for Hospitalist: To work in accordance with the Medical Director, the Hospitalist Site Director, the Corporate Director of Physician Services, and Nurse Managers to improve the workflow pertaining to APP's, and to improve and optimize the flow of patients through the hospital system. To work in cooperation with Hospitalist Administrative staff to generate a block schedule including weekends and holidays for advanced practice professionals, to help coordinate APP PTO requests and scheduling, to include denial of request when appropriate staffing is an issue, and to facilitate contingencies for unscheduled call-ins. To coordinate weekly duties/responsibilities for APP's, as appropriate To oversee daily duties/responsibilities to maintain appropriate rounding on hospital patients To assist in the recruitment and retention of new APP's, and orient and train new APP's To provide additional APP training/education when needed, and to disseminate changes in policies and practices of the Hospitalist services to APP's, including training for EMR To provide guidance/corrective action when needed pertaining to App's To aid in overseeing annual licensure and credentialing requirements pertaining to APP's To ensure equity in workloads and weekend/holiday assignments to prevent unnecessary expenses. To oversee the integrity of the clinical documentation of APP's in electronic medical record. To oversee the integrity of the clinical documentation related to Evidence Based Care for Hospitalist medicine patients. To assist the Program Assistant in proper Time reporting of APP's for payroll purposes. To assist the Hospitalist Quality Director and Medical Director in coordinating any Quality monitoring or reporting initiatives involving APP's. To assist with developing and maintaining competency checklists for APP's To assist with development and enforcement of policies and procedures for APP's To assist with annual performance evaluations of APP's To investigate and respond to patient safety events when APP's involved To investigate and respond to patient/family/staff complaints when APP's involved To engage APP's in adherence to core values and professionalism standards, leading by example. To engage APP's in quality initiatives and TCT transformation, leading by example.

Education
• Post Graduate Diploma or Certificate Program (Required) Experience: 1 year experience in CAMC's hospital medicine programSubstitution: A masters in nursing may substitute for the post graduate physician assistanceComment: All incumbents must be approved by the credentialing process with Medical Affairs prior to their start date in this position.
